In this post, I will show you how to install or update VirtualBox Extension Pack using the command line (Terminal) on Linux.

Install VirtualBox Extension Pack from the Terminal

I assume that you have VirtualBox installed on your Computer and that you also downloaded VirtualBox Extension Pack. Now you just want to install it using the Terminal. Let's say you downloaded VirtualBox Extension Pack on the ~/Downloads directory. The filename is Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.2.4-119785.vbox-extpack You can install VirtualBox Extension Pack with the following commands: $ cd ~/Downloads $ VBoxManage extpack install Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.2.4-119785.vbox-extpack It should ask you to accept the license agreement, accept it and VirtualBox Extension Pack should be installed. If you don't want to be prompted for the license agreement, you can pass --accept-license parameter to accept the license agreement as follows: $ VBoxManage extpack install Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.2.4-119785.vbox-extpack --accept-license

Update VirtualBox Extension Pack from the Terminal

I assume that you have VirtualBox installed on your Computer and that you also downloaded the latest VirtualBox Extension Pack. Now you just want to update it using the Terminal. Let's say you downloaded the latest VirtualBox Extension Pack on the ~/Downloads directory. The filename is Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.2.4-119785.vbox-extpack You can update VirtualBox Extension Pack with the following commands: $ cd ~/Downloads $ VBoxManage extpack install --replace Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.2.4-119785.vbox-extpack It should ask you to accept the license agreement, accept it and VirtualBox Extension Pack should be updated.
